Report: Johnny Manziel has reached out to AAF about playing
Johnny Manziel is no longer welcome in the Canadian Football League after he was ruled ineligible this week and released by the Montreal Alouettes, but he is not giving up on playing football.
According to Darren Rovell of The Action Network, Manziel has reached out to the AAF about possibly playing for the league. However, AAF officials want to find out why he was released by the CFL before making any decision.
Update: Johnny Manziel has been in touch with the AAF about possibly playing for the league (his rights are with San Antonio). Told AAF not moving on anything, if they do, until they find out why he was cut loose + to make sure he’s free and clear from Alouettes.

It’s unclear why the Alouettes were forced to cut Manziel, but a statement from the team said the 26-year-old “contravened the agreement” that made him eligible to play in the CFL. Montreal GM Kavis Reed also said the Alouettes “worked with the league and presented alternatives to Johnny, who was unwilling to proceed.”
Manziel had to jump through a number of hoops before the CFL allowed him to sign with a team, so it’s possible he violated the conditions that were in place. It’s no surprise he is now pursuing an opportunity in the AAF, where he would be assigned to play for the San Antonio Commanders since he played college ball at Texas A&M.
We’ve already seen Manziel turned away from other opportunities because of his checkered past, so it will be interesting to see what the AAF decides to do. If the AAF won’t have him, Manziel could also reach out to the XFL.
