Josh Norman and Odell Beckham Jr. will get to rekindle hostilities on Sunday.
A source told ESPN’s Britt McHenry that Norman will be assigned to shadow Beckham “except for slot.”
Washington had reportedly been hesitant to give Norman that freedom, with fellow corner Bashaud Breeland said to be unhappy that Norman has been getting the No. 1 assignments in recent weeks, but the source said the team wants to “let [Norman] earn the $75 million.”
This is overdue. Norman was ripped by some players for not shadowing Antonio Bryant, which allowed Bryant to tear Breeland apart in the team’s season opener. There’s also the added dimension of the Norman-Beckham rivalry, which came into being last year in a game that got Beckham suspended. Norman is regarded as a top corner, and he should be shadowing top receivers, not Breeland.
