Longtime Philadelphia Eagles tackle Lane Johnson made a significant announcement about his future on Saturday.

Johnson, a stalwart of Philadelphia’s offensive line over the last 13 years, revealed that he will likely retire after the 2026 season. He indicated that a desire to spend more time with his family is a major factor in his decision.

“As you get older, things change in your life, priorities. Your children get older. Your parents get older. It just puts things into perspective,” Johnson said. “It’s looking like this is probably going to be my last year, just because I am getting to that point of those priorities away from football starting to merge.”

Eagles RT Lane Johnson reveals that this season will probably be his last in the NFL:

There was some uncertainty regarding whether Johnson would even play this season. He missed the last eight games of last season due to a foot injury, but he made clear in February that he would be back for 2026.

Johnson has openly talked about retirement for four years now. He turned 36 in May and has accomplished virtually everything he could hope to achieve in the NFL, including two All-Pro selections and a pair of Super Bowl wins. He is close to a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame once he does call it quits.

The Eagles selected Johnson fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has started for them ever since, with 168 career games to his name.
