The New York Giants can apparently rule out one rumored target for their head coach position.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman essentially confirmed Monday that he will remain with the Fighting Irish for 2026. He posted a message to X promising to “run it back” next season.

Go Irish ☘️
Freeman had been linked to NFL openings even before the offseason started, most prominently the Giants job. It was never clear if he was actually interested, and the school was very vocal about the lengths to which they would go in order to keep him.
For Notre Dame, this will come as a major relief. At this point in the offseason, they likely would have had a difficult time finding a quality coach to replace Freeman had he left. Plus, the simple fact is that he has been very successful with the Fighting Irish, having posted a 43-12 record with the school in his four seasons as head coach.
While Freeman may have been on the Giants’ list, he was likely always seen as a long-shot option. The team has also been linked to some more attainable candidates as they look to replace the fired Brian Daboll.
