Former NFL quarterback and current broadcaster Mark Sanchez has been hospitalized with severe injuries after being stabbed early Saturday morning.

Police in Indianapolis, In. were called to an incident downtown at roughly 12:30 a.m. for a report of two injured people. According to TMZ Sports, one of them was Sanchez, who was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Justin Powell of FOX59 in Indianapolis reported that two victims were involved, one of whom had injuries consistent with stab wounds. Police said the incident was isolated and began as an argument between two individuals, and an individual was detained at the scene.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis as part of his broadcast duties for FOX. He had been scheduled to do color commentary for Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders.

FOX issued a statement Saturday morning confirming that Sanchez was injured and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

FOX Sports Statement:

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that…

Sanchez, 38, was a standout quarterback for USC before being drafted No. 5 overall by the New York Jets in 2009. Though he quarterbacked the Jets to the AFC Championship in each of his first two NFL seasons, he was ultimately unsuccessful with the organization, and was out of the NFL after the 2018 season.

Since retiring from the NFL, Sanchez has worked as a broadcaster, first for ESPN and later for FOX. He has gained praise for his broadcasting work, and is in his fourth season as a game analyst for FOX.
