Report: Marvin Lewis faced ‘near mutiny’ if he kept offensive coordinator
The Cincinnati Bengals fired offensive coordinator Ken Zampese on Monday, and it was done because coach Marvin Lewis was left with no other choice.
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Lewis was facing a “near mutiny” if he kept Zampese on, with several players privately ripping his work. Perhaps the most notable critique came from the normally reserved A.J. Green, whose public comments about the offense were a clear indicator that something was very wrong.
Zampese was fired on Friday and replaced by quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor, with the Bengals having failed to score a touchdown in their first two games.
Cincinnati will have to change things — and fast. Lewis stands to be very much on the hot seat if things do not improve.
