Matthew Stafford will begin training camp with the Los Angeles Rams as a limited participant this week, as the veteran quarterback is dealing with a new injury.
Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters on Tuesday that Stafford has experienced some back soreness this summer. The 37-year-old will work off to the side with L.A.’s training staff when practices begin.
McVay said Stafford will go through modified workouts for at least five days.

Stafford has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career. He is also at a point where he does not need as many offseason reps as a younger player, so it makes sense for the Rams to play it as safe as possible with him.
There was a point last season when Stafford dealt with tightness in his back, but he played through it. McVay did not make the new injury sound like anything serious, so Stafford would probably be able to suit up if it were the middle of the season.
Stafford threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 16 games last season. He led the Rams to the playoffs, where they beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.
Stafford signed a new deal with the Rams this offseason, and he reportedly took less money to remain with the team.
