Mike Pouncey could be ready for season despite neck injury

Mike Pouncey

With the Los Angeles Chargers possibly getting a new franchise quarterback in this year’s draft, they are getting some good news about the offensive line that will be tasked with protecting him.

In a video conference with the media this weekend, Chargers GM Tom Telesco indicated that injured center Mike Pouncey will be ready for the season.

“He’s trending in the right direction,” said Telesco about Pouncey, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic. “Obviously, we haven’t had a chance to see him in a long time, but all indications are very good. … I know he’s excited to play.”

Pouncey, the four-time Pro Bowler, appeared in just five games last season due to a neck injury and had to undergo surgery for it. With Pouncey about to turn 31, there was some concern that his injury could be career-threatening.

Telesco’s comments do sound fairly optimistic though, which is a good sign, especially given the beating Pouncey’s body has already taken otherwise.
