Unsurprisingly, the NFL’s competition committee is going to take a look at the Baltimore Ravens’ rule exploitation.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the committee will consider amending the rule that ensures that the game can end on an offensive penalty. Currently, offensive penalties do not result in any untimed down, thus ensuring that a team could theoretically commit an offensive penalty intentionally, run out the clock, and not face repercussions for it.
The intent would be to ensure that the Ravens – or any other team – cannot repeat how they ran out the clock in last week’s win over Cincinnati. It was quite obviously not in the spirit of the rule, and it would make sense for the committee to amend it to ensure that this sort of intentional holding can’t be used as a successful tactic.
