Report: Some NFL teams think Chip Kelly is ‘toxic’

The potential head coaching jobs for Chip Kelly seem to be disappearing by the day, and a lot of that could have to do with the way many NFL teams view the former Philadelphia Eagles coach.

While Kelly has been linked to several vacancies, Matt Lombardo of NJ.com reports that some NFL sources he has spoken to consider Kelly to be “toxic.”

Annnd another potential Chip Kelly job could be filled today. "Toxic" keeps coming up in conversation w/#NFL sources https://t.co/mz1oLo05yD

Kelly recently had an interview in San Francisco, but it appears the 49ers are getting close to hiring Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. There was some speculation that Kelly could work well with a mobile quarterback like Colin Kaepernick, but common sense would tell you that the Eagles fired Kelly for the same reasons the Niners fired Jim Harbaugh.

What about the Tennessee Titans? A report from NFL.com’s Albert Breer indicates they are not interested in Kelly, despite the history he has with Marcus Mariota.

This isn’t the first we have heard about Kelly not having many suitors. His camp is probably planting a lot of the rumors to make it seem like Chip is a hot commodity. We wouldn’t be surprised if he has to settle for an offensive coordinator job or take a year off.
