Report: Most NFL teams not concerned with Kyler Murray’s height

Kyler Murray

A lack of size has been one of the biggest knocks against Kyler Murray as the he prepares for the NFL Draft, but it seems unlikely that the former Oklahoma star’s small stature is going to prevent him from being one of the first quarterbacks selected.

Murray is listed at 5-foot-10, and he may actually be shorter than that. If he ends up earning a starting job somewhere, he would be one of the shortest starting quarterbacks in NFL history. According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, most teams have a favorable opinion of Murray and are not worried about that.

Most teams that I’ve spoken to, however, don’t seem to care how tall he is. What I’ve heard is that Murray is one of the more dynamic quarterback prospects personnel men have seen in several years and may have more potential than any quarterback drafted last year. Note that I said potential, not that it is a sure thing he would be better.

There is no clear-cut top quarterback in this year’s draft, and that should work in Murray’s favor. It is almost certainly one of the reasons he chose to give back his signing bonus with the Oakland A’s and pursue a career in football. As it stands now, Murray is reportedly in the mix to be the first QB taken.

While NFL teams may have some other concerns about Murray beyond his size, we’d be surprised if he made it out of the first round. He’s from the exact same college system as Baker Mayfield and won the Heisman Trophy last season, and Mayfield went on to be the first overall pick in the draft. A few inches of height can’t make that much of a difference.
