New details have emerged regarding wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ contract with the New England Patriots.
Diggs signed a three-year deal with the Patriots worth a reported $69 million, but the deal is more team-friendly than it looks on the surface. According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, only $1.7 million of Diggs’ deal is guaranteed beyond the 2025 season.
Diggs will make $18.5 million in 2025, not including incentives if he stays healthy. The contract contains a base salary of $22.5 million for 2026, but virtually none of it is guaranteed.

The deal also contains a $6 million injury guarantee that kicks in next March, but the Patriots could easily avoid that if they want to.
Essentially, the Diggs deal is a one-year deal that the Patriots can get out of next year at virtually no cost. The team insulated itself from risk, as Diggs is still coming back from a significant ACL injury. If it works out for New England, they can keep him for 2026 and beyond. If not, they face few long-term repercussions for it.
Diggs had posted six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons up until last year, when his injury limited him to eight games in his first and only season with the Houston Texans. If he can fully recover from that and become a top target for Drake Maye in New England, both sides will have reason to be happy with the arrangement.
