Notre Dame alum Benjamin Morrison arguably had the best NFL draft call of the year so far.
On Friday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used the 53rd overall pick to select Morrison in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Morrison, son of former NFL defensive back Darryl Morrison, got the phone call informing him of the news while at home surrounded by his friends and family.
Benjamin slowly started to get overwhelmed by the gravity of the moment as he spoke to Buccaneers GM Jason Licht and head coach Todd Bowles.
“Thank you for believing in me,” an emotional Morrison said to Licht.
“Man, I’m not going to let you down,” the Notre Dame product later told Bowles. “I promise you, man. Thank you so much.”

Morrison entered his final season at Notre Dame as a projected first-round pick. However, the 21-year-old had his 2024 campaign cut short after suffering a season-ending hip injury during the Fighting Irish’s October 12 contest against Stanford.
In 31 career games at Notre Dame, Morrison tallied 9 interceptions and 18 passes defended.
