Gardner Minshew may have been on the losing side Sunday, but he and his mustache still managed to grab the headlines.
After Minshew’s Jacksonville Jaguars fell to the Carolina Panthers 34-27, Panthers linebacker Mario Addison joked that the rookie slipped him once during the game because his ‘stache fell off and began running the other way.
“I paused like – do I go after the mustache?” cracked Addison, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic.
The 23-year-old quarterback actually had a strong outing against Carolina, throwing for 374 yards and two touchdowns before time expired on his potential game-tying drive in the fourth quarter. Addison did register one of the Panthers’ two sacks on Minshew for the day though.
Since taking over for an injured Nick Foles in Week 1, Minshew and his facial hair have ascended to true cult hero status, both in Jacksonville and around the league. Just a few weeks ago, he shared the origins of the magic mustache.
