New report emerges about Panthers’ stance on trading Bryce Young
The Carolina Panthers have turned back to Bryce Young as their starting quarterback in the wake of an injury to Andy Dalton, but that does not necessarily mean the team is committed to him for the long term.
The Panthers are at least entertaining the possibility of trading Young ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. In the latest episode of her “Scoop City” podcast that was released on Thursday, Russini said the Panthers are “really just trying to figure out (Young’s) value.”
“I know that there are teams around the league right now interested to see if they can be the team to sort of revamp him and give him some life,” Russini said, via Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report.
Young was benched for Dalton in Week 2. There were reports right away that the Panthers had no intention of trading the former No. 1 overall pick, but it makes sense that they are seeing what they could get for him.
Dalton has practiced in full this week, but Young is in line to start Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Dalton injured his thumb in a recent car accident, and Panthers head coach Dave Canales has said he wants to give the veteran another week to recover. It is also possible that Carolina is using Week 9 to showcase Young for potential trades.
