Rams reportedly among teams interested in Clay Matthews
Clay Matthews is coming off a down season from a production standpoint, but he remains one of the best edge rushers available in an offseason where there are very few on the market. The former Green Bay Packers star is expected to draw interest from multiple teams, one of which is the Los Angeles Rams.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Rams are a team to keep an eye on with Matthews, as longtime defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is a “big fan” of him.
The #Rams are a prime landing spot for veterans, especially those who live in California. They have interest in Clay Matthews… as do a host of others. pic.twitter.com/sDl6gD0CKK

As Rapoport mentioned, Matthews played his college ball at USC and still has a home in the Los Angeles area. He’ll turn 33 before next season and is not quite as explosive as he was a few years back, but a new scheme could benefit him.
There was speculation at one point that Matthews was questioning whether or not he wanted to keep playing because of the way the NFL’s new roughing the passer rules were impacting him, but that talk has died down. Matthews is going to play in 2019, and signing with a contender like the Rams makes a lot of sense for a guy who has already made nearly $80 million during his career.
