Redskins reportedly unlikely to re-sign Alfred Morris

Alfred-Morris-Redskins

Alfred E. Neuman was famous for saying, “What, me worry?” Alfred Morris, on the other hand, should probably start worrying.

According to a report by Rich Tandler of CSN Washington over the weekend, Morris, the Washington Redskins running back who is a free agent this offseason, “is likely (although not certain) to be playing elsewhere” next year.

Morris, 27, had a poor showing in 2015, rushing for just 751 yards and a lone touchdown. Though remarkably durable (playing in all 16 games in each of his first four seasons) and a two-time Pro Bowler with three 1000+ yard rushing campaigns under his belt, Morris has gotten progressively worse each year since his dominant rookie season in 2012.

The Redskins won the NFC East with a 9-7 record last season, but did it with an overwhelmingly aerial-based attack. They also have 22-year-old Matt Jones ready to potentially assume workhorse duties in the backfield.

The shelf lives of NFL running backs are notoriously short, and Morris has looked to be on the downswing for some time now. With the Florida Atlantic product likely on his way out of Washington, hopefully, his new home will have a manageable population of our raccoon brethren.
