The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Mia, was taken to a hospital after being shot at their home in Ashburn, Va., Sunday night, according to ESPN’s Nate Taylor.
Police in Loudoun County, Va., reportedly confirmed that a person was being treated for “serious injuries,” though authorities have yet to confirm whether the individual was Mia.
The incident happened amid the start of the Chiefs’ training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office provided additional details about the situation.
“Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said Monday that police arrived at a home located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, at 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday,” Taylor added.
The Chiefs said in a statement that they are aware of the situation but have not released additional details.
Bieniemy is just starting his second stint with the Chiefs, who welcomed him back in January to take over the job left by Matt Nagy.
The 56-year-old previously spent several years in Kansas City from 2013 to 2022, serving as running backs coach and later offensive coordinator before joining the Washington Commanders in 2023. He then returned to the college ranks as the UCLA Bruins’ associate head coach and offensive coordinator before reuniting with the Chiefs.
