NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is not a very well-liked man in New England, which has led to some concern about his vacation home in Maine.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the NFL contacted the Scarborough police on Tuesday shortly before or after Goodell announced that Tom Brady’s four-game suspension has been upheld.
“They did reach out and let us know about the decision and that it might not be popular,” Scarborough Police Chief Robbie Moulton said.
Goodell reportedly owns a $6.5 million vacation home in a part of Scarborough called Prout’s Neck. Moulton noted that he not been made aware of any threats or issues since the Brady ruling came down, but keeping a closer eye on Goodell’s property is standard procedure given the circumstances.
“In the past, when there have been unpopular decisions, there have been emails and things,” Moulton said. “I wouldn’t say it rose to the level of threats, but certainly expressing unhappiness.”
Patriots owner Robert Kraft probably spoke for most Patriots fans on Wednesday when he made these comments about Goodell and the league. That said, we hope no one would take it as far as to damage Goodell’s property or anything like that. You never want to see that happen.
