Instead of sulking about losing his job to a player nearly a decade-and-a-half his junior, Ryan Fitzpatrick is doing the exact opposite.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback, who was benched this week in favor of 22-year-old Josh Rosen, had a commendable reaction to the news, according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. The veteran signal caller reportedly reacted by getting Rosen up at a white board and starting to quiz him on protections.
The 36-year-old Fitzpatrick, who is in his 15th career season, had thrown for 274 yards with one touchdown to four interceptions in the first two games of 2019. He will now give way to the second-year Rosen, who is in his first season with the Dolphins.
Fitzpatrick has been part of QB battles for much of his career and is used to going back and forth from backup to starter, so this is nothing new to him. He also likely knew going into the season that Rosen would probably start at some point, which may have had a role in his positive reaction.
For all the memes that Fitzpatrick has inspired over the years, he definitely appears to have the character to back it up as well.
