Sam Darnold trolled for ‘ghost’ comment with airplane banner in Jacksonville
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold made an unfortunate remark on the sideline while he was wearing a microphone during Monday night’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots, and fans are not going to let him live it down anytime soon.
Prior to New York’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, a banner flew over TIAA Bank Field that read “Gardner Minshew ain’t afraid of no ghost! #Duuuval.”

Darnold had a miserable game against New England’s dominant defense. He completed just 11-of-32 passes and had four interceptions and a lost fumble in the 33-0 loss, and a clip aired by ESPN showed him admitting he was “seeing ghosts.” Some of Darnold’s teammates have expressed anger over ESPN and the NFL allowing the comment to air, but that doesn’t help the quarterback now.
Darnold probably didn’t need any added motivation coming off his horrific performance, but that banner might provide some.
