Sean McVay is a fan of Baker Mayfield.
The Los Angeles Rams head coach met the Heisman Trophy winner at the Super Bowl earlier this month, but they spent a little more time together this week. Coincidentally, the two were on the same flight Tuesday to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. McVay spotted Mayfield and called him over to sit next to him. The two ended up talking, with McVay sharing some advice for Mayfield ahead of his big week meeting with teams.
McVay had nothing but positive things to say about Mayfield when talking with ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez on Wednesday.
“You can see he understands football; he’s put good stuff on tape for the last handful of years,” McVay said. “His resume speaks for itself.”
McVay also called Mayfield “an impressive guy” and “very likable.”
Mayfield has received some criticism and even comparisons to Johnny Manziel, likely due to his trash-talking ways and sometimes questionable behavior. But an endorsement from McVay should go a long way.
