Steelers seem to think they know what Aaron Rodgers will do

The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to think they know what Aaron Rodgers will do.

The Steelers had multiple opportunities to take a quarterback in the first five rounds of this year’s NFL Draft and declined to do so. The team currently has Mason Rudolph on their roster as their starting quarterback. It’s hard to imagine a team with a defense ready to win would enter a season with Rudolph as their quarterback.

Considering how few veteran options there are remaining, and the fact that Pittsburgh did not draft a quarterback within the first several rounds, we are led to believe the Steelers think Rodgers will sign with them.

Mike Tomlin feels good

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke with the media on Saturday during the final day of the draft. The Steelers coach said the team has had “really productive” talks with Rodgers.

“We feel good about our plan at the position,” Tomlin stated. “I understand the angst in your community and the community that supports us.”

Other veteran options

The Steelers’ options at quarterback are limited. Most quarterbacks have already found homes via free agency this offseason. The Atlanta Falcons have Kirk Cousins as their backup quarterback and could enter camp with that being the case. He could be a trade option for them. After that, the top remaining free agent veteran QB is Carson Wentz.

Do you really think the Steelers will go into the season with Rudolph and Wentz as their quarterbacks? That seems unlikely. They must have faith that Rodgers will sign with them.
