Report: Teddy Bridgewater would need ‘special situation’ to leave Saints
Teddy Bridgewater is apparently quite comfortable being Drew Brees’ backup and possible heir apparent with the New Orleans Saints.
Bridgewater is a free agent this offseason, and the prevailing wisdom is that he will have a chance to find a starting job on the open market. According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, however, Bridgewater may prefer to stay right where he is.
According to Triplett, Bridgewater is exceptionally comfortable in New Orleans, and is liked among both his teammates and the community. He says Bridgewater will be “extremely picky” about other opportunities, and would need a “special situation” to want to leave. That would likely mean a competitive team with a need at quarterback that won’t be drafting one.
The Saints would need to give Bridgewater a raise to keep him, but they’re known to be creative with the salary cap. The team would be thrilled to keep him after he went 5-0 as a starter last year, which could mean Sean Payton’s unlikely dream comes true after all.
