Terrell Owens takes shot at Michael Irvin over drug use

Terrell Owens took a shot at Michael Irvin in response to Irvin’s Hall of Fame criticism of him.

A week and a half ago, Irvin was a guest on the “Rich Eisen Show” and expressed his disappointment over Owens not showing up to Canton for his Hall of Fame enshrinement. Owens’ decision not to attend Canton for the enshrinement was controversial and made major headlines.

Irvin, who was a 2007 Hall of Fame inductee, told Eisen that Owens owed it to many people to be in attendance for the event.

Irvin said that Owens would be missing out on the true feeling of what it’s like to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and noted that some players took Owens’ absence personally. He also suggested that Owens’ decision to hold a speech at a different location was selfish.

“You owe your parents something. You owe people something for their sacrifices,” said Irvin. “To hear my people say that we don’t owe anybody anything? Yes the hell we do. And yes the hell he do. I wish he was here to get what he earned.”

On Tuesday, Owens got around to responding to some tweets and decided to take a shot at Irvin. Owens said that Irvin’s criticism must be “side/after effects of drug use.”

Rich! He sounds ridiculous! And I don't owe anybody anything. Must the side/after effects of drug use. I'm gonna leave it at that! Definitely won't be any hugging going on. #GOMOCS https://t.co/grdp0BlRO6

Irvin had a reputation for having a cocaine addiction during his playing days and even was arrested for drugs after retiring, so that’s what Owens was referencing.

The drugs shot from Owens seemed unnecessary when Irvin wasn’t saying anything out of line. It’s clear that this is a sensitive subject for Owens, who is holding a grudge against the Hall. Irvin feels much differently about the Hall of Fame and was extremely grateful to make it, as this funny story showed.
