Todd Bowles declines to name Jets starting quarterback for remainder of season
New York Jets coach Todd Bowles is remaining mum on how his team will proceed with what has become a questionable quarterback situation.
With the Jets entering a bye week, Bowles told reporters Monday that he will not name a quarterback until next Monday.
Bowles also deferred when asked if it was time for the 3-7 Jets to punt on the season and evaluate what they have with Bryce Petty instead of veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.
“Not right now,” Bowles said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “He played OK, but he’s still got a lot of things to learn. But you don’t learn unless you play. But at the same time, we’re still trying to win games, too.”
Bowles is hedging, and he really doesn’t want to give any hints. Of course, up until Week 10, Bowles was still talking up Fitzpatrick. A knee injury may have changed that, but it stands to reason he should be healthy enough to go in two weeks, if that’s what Bowles wants to do.
