Tom Brady is putting a conspiracy about a silent protest of the NFL to rest.
The New England Patriots quarterback spoke with Westwood One’s Jim Gray for an interview that aired on Thursday prior to the NFL’s kickoff game between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
In the interview, Brady was asked about the controversy regarding him playing preseason games without the decal of the NFL shield on his helmet (photo here). Brady said he didn’t even know about it and that he doesn’t pay attention to that sort of thing.
Here’s how the exchange between Brady and Jim Gray went:
Gray: Now Tom, since you haven’t been around the facility or able to answer this question, there was an NFL decal missing on the back of your helmet the last two preseason games that you played in. Did you remove that decal?
Brady: No I didn’t. I don’t even pay attention to what’s on my helmet. I just hope the helmet’s functional, that’s all I’m trying to get the helmet to be. So I don’t pay attention to the stickers or whatever else is on there and I certainly didn’t remove anything.
Gray: So do you expect to hear from the league office on this? And if so, would you consider this maybe a minor equipment violation?
Brady: (Laughs) I hope not, I hope not. Again it’s something that…I don’t know where it came from.
This is not the first time Brady has denied having any involvement in his equipment; he also denied any involvement in the Deflategate scandal.
