Tony Romo confirms he won’t need surgery, but how long will he be out?

Tony Romo exited his team’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday with a broken clavicle after a defender fell on him and he landed on his left shoulder. While it remains unclear how long Romo will be out, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback has shared some positive news.

On Monday, Romo confirmed reports that he will not need to undergo surgery.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. No surgery needed. We're just getting started cowboys nation. See you soon

Avoiding the knife is almost always a good sign. Unfortunately, there is no way to really predict exactly how much time Romo will miss.

As Jay Glazer of FOX Sports notes, opting for no surgery means Romo will be at the mercy of how fast his fractured bone heals. While rehab should be less complicated with the injury being to his non-throwing shoulder, Romo will simply need to be patient until the bone heals completely. Early reports estimate that will take around 8 weeks.

The Cowboys will now have to survive over at least the next two months without both Romo and Dez Bryant, so you can understand why Jerry Jones delivered this epic quote after Romo went down. One thing working in Dallas’ favor is that the Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Redskins do not look good. An 8-8 team could conceivably win the NFC East.
