Trevone Boykin was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday almost immediately after a report revealed he is being investigated for domestic violence, but the quarterback insists he is innocent.
In a statement he released, Boykin said the allegation that he physically assaulted his longtime girlfriend is “false.” He said he understands why the Seahawks chose to release him but claims the accuser has “fabricated a story and I am suffering the consequences.”

According to a report from TMZ, Boykin is expected to be charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend Shabrika Bailey says he broke her jaw during a physical altercation last week.
This is not Boykin’s first time being in legal trouble, as he was arrested roughly a year ago for public intoxication and drug possession. That incident led to a second arrest after it was determined that he had violated the terms of his probation. The former TCU star was on probation after being arrested for getting into a bar fight and striking a police officer while he was still in college in 2015. He was suspended from TCU’s bowl game as a result.
The Seahawks stuck with Boykin through his previous off-field issues, but they wasted no time releasing him in the wake of the domestic violence allegation.
