Troubling stat surfaces about Aaron Rodgers, Jets

The New York Jets felt like they were robbed of a potential championship season when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1 last year, but the reality is things have not looked much different with the former MVP quarterback under center.

With a record of 2-3 through five weeks, the Jets are in the same spot this season that they were in a year ago. What’s even more troubling is that their offense has been no better with Rodgers than it was with Zach Wilson. In fact, New York has scored the exact same amount of points — 93 — in five games with Rodgers that they scored through five games with Wilson.

One more comparison to last season.

Jets in 2023: 2-3 record, 93 points (18.6 PPG) through first five games with Zach Wilson
Jets in 2024: 2-3 record, 93 points (18.6 PPG) through first five games with Aaron Rodgers

It goes without saying that the Jets hoped the results would be much, much better with Rodgers. Of course, it is possible that Rodgers is now a different player after his injury. Recovering from a torn Achilles is never easy, let alone for a 40-year-old player.

Rodgers went 29/54 for 244 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in Sunday’s 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. There have been times when he has seemed frustrated with his coaches and teammates. At the moment, there is no reason to think the Jets are better off with Rodgers than they were with Wilson. That needs to change in a hurry in order for New York to remain in playoff contention.
