The Los Angeles Rams are bringing back one of their former wide receivers just five months after allowing him to leave as a free agent.
The Rams re-acquired wide receiver Tutu Atwell from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for running back Jarquez Hunter, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal sends Atwell back to Los Angeles after he spent the first five years of his career there.
Thursday’s move is unusual for a whole host of reasons. Atwell left the Rams to sign with Miami as a free agent in March, so one has to wonder how enthusiastic he is about suddenly being dealt back there. The Rams seemed to have little use for Atwell at the end of last season, as he was inactive for the team’s final two playoff games.
Atwell was a second-round pick of the Rams in 2021. He never really broke through into the top tier of receivers there, with his best season coming in 2024 when he caught 42 passes for 562 yards. He also caught three touchdown passes in 2023.
Last year, Atwell played in just ten games, and caught only six passes for 192 yards and a touchdown.
