Tyrann Mathieu still motivated by media draft snub

Tyrann Mathieu CardinalsTyrann Mathieu is still carrying a chip on his shoulder over a media outlet snubbing him when it came to the NFL Draft two years ago.

Mathieu was a controversial figure coming out of college. He was kicked off the team at LSU prior to the 2012 season due to marijuana use and missed the year of college football, putting his draft stock in jeopardy. He even went to jail and said he contemplated suicide. But the Arizona Cardinals had faith in him and took him in the third round of the 2013 draft.

This week, Mathieu was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month of November. He was pretty stoked about it and celebrated the honor via his Twitter account. He also took the opportunity to remind himself and everyone what some were saying about him prior to the draft:

That links to a tweet from sports outlet Rant Sports, which wrote an article stating “Tyrann Mathieu not worth a pick in 2013 NFL Draft.”

Clearly Mathieu has proven them and every other outlet that snubbed him wrong. He also has shown all those teams that passed him up the first two rounds of the draft made a mistake, and he has more than rewarded the Cardinals for showing faith in him.

Mathieu has 70 tackles, four interceptions, a touchdown and a sack this season. Between being kicked off the team at LSU, going to jail, the draft snub and his torn ACL injury, Mathieu has come a long way. And we give him credit too for finally using Twitter in a much better way than the last time.
