Son of Hall of Fame PG lands deal with NBA contender
Bol Bol is no longer the only second-generation NBA player on the Phoenix Suns roster.
Keith Smith of Spotrac reported this weekend that the Suns have signed guard David Stockton, the son of Hall of Fame point guard John Stockton. David is reportedly getting an Exhibit 10 contract from Phoenix (one year for the league-minimum salary).
The 33-year-old David went to Gonzaga, just like his father, and then went undrafted in 2014. He has been a basketball journeyman since then, suiting up for the Sacramento Kings and (fittingly) the Utah Jazz. David has also made several stops in the NBA G League as well as overseas (including in Croatia, New Zealand, Germany, and Puerto Rico). Last season, David played for Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), a league he led in assists back in 2021.
Of course, David’s father John knows a thing or two about assists as well. After playing all 19 of his career seasons with the Jazz and making 10 NBA All-Star teams, John was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 as the NBA’s all-time leader in both assists and in steals. Now John’s son is back in the NBA with a Suns team that also recently gave an opportunity to another famous name.
