Victor Cruz upset with media over Josh Brown comments

Victor Cruz received some negative backlash for making comments that support teammate Josh Brown, and he later blamed the media for spinning his remarks.

The New York Giants wide receiver was quoted on Thursday as saying he is “behind Josh Brown.”

“Obviously, it is an unfortunate situation for all parties,” Cruz said Thursday via NJ.com. “But as a teammate, I am behind Josh Brown. I just want him to get himself right and make sure that he is able to overcome these things. It is not an easy thing, obviously, involving his personal life. But as an individual, I just want him to overcome and see where it goes.”

Saying that Cruz was supporting Brown would not be wrong based on those comments. However, the Giants wide receiver later clarified on Twitter that he did not support Brown’s actions, which include admitting to beating his ex-wife multiple times.

Here’s what Cruz tweeted:

Let's be clear I never said I stood behind Josh Browns actions, what he admitted to is wrong and I do not … https://t.co/hOFLMYuXLy

Let’s be clear I never said I stood behind Josh Browns actions, what he admitted to is wrong and I do not stand being domestic abuse in the least bit. As a teammate that’s all I know of him, teammate his personal life is exactly that and I stand far away from getting into that.

Cruz then blamed the media for twisting his words:

Y'all reporters man…lol

It's laughable at this point.

The NFL has said it will revisit Brown’s case. The Giants kicker received a one-game suspension from the NFL this season despite his domestic violence arrest in 2015. Information was made public on Wednesday showing that Brown admitted to beating his then-wife multiple times.

The Giants and NFL knew about some of the past incidents but still gave Brown the light suspension. They are now considering a longer one for the kicker, who is not traveling to London for the Giants’ upcoming game.
