The Buffalo Bills employee who received a surprise shoutout from quarterback Josh Allen had the most wholesome response to the situation.
Allen unexpectedly shouted out a Bills mailroom employee named “Slick Rick” during his MVP acceptance speech at the NFL Honors ceremony as he discussed the importance of everyone in the organization.
“It takes everybody, from the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff to Slick Rick in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs,” Allen said during his speech. “It truly takes everybody to have team success, and I’m so fortunate to be part of a great organization.”

The “Slick Rick” shoutout apparently came as a surprise to the man himself. The staffer in question, Roderick Morrow, was interviewed by 7 News WKBW and had the most wholesome response.
“When I left work Thursday, I said if Josh doesn’t get MVP, I’m going to cry, because he deserves it. He’s that important to our team,” Morrow said. “When I was watching the awards, when he went on stage, I was happy that he had won it, and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name, I just broke down.”
Morrow then began to break down again just thinking about it.
“I’m just an average person, but when he mentioned my name, it was like, oh my God, he just mentioned my name on national television,” Morrow said. “I was just crying. Then I started getting phone calls from friends, and I was crying on the phone to them. It’s still like a dream, because I work here, but I don’t like this publicity. I’m just down to earth.”
NFL teams have hundreds of employees that are rarely seen and heard, but are instrumental in keeping the operation going. For Morrow to get that sort of recognition is pretty awesome, and it was a class move from Allen.
Allen is certainly beloved in Buffalo. The fact that he can offer such shoutouts and be in tune with the organization is certainly part of why.
