Michael Bennett: Sam Bradford makes me want to ‘throw up’
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is disgusted with Sam Bradford over the way the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has handled himself this offseason.
Bennett unloaded on Bradford Tuesday for being afraid to compete against rookie quarterback Carson Wentz in training camp. More specifically, he said Bradford’s antics over the past few weeks make him want to vomit.
“I listened to Sam Bradford again. I just almost threw up,” Bennett told ESPN 710 in Seattle, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com. “I can’t believe Sam Bradford is complaining about making $40 million in the next two years, and because he actually has to compete for a position. This guy … this guy right here definitely sets a bad tone of what a player should be. If I was his teammate, how can you play with a guy that doesn’t want to compete at a high level and feels like his position should be solidified without even putting up the stats or the wins to back that up?”
It’s a fair point. Bradford is set to make more than $20 million guaranteed from the Eagles with his new two-year deal, yet he immediately demanded a trade and had his agent blast the team when Philly acquired the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. Bradford really had no leverage, and he ended up showing up for work anyway.
Will his holdout/temper tantrum be water under the bridge, or will some of Bradford’s teammates feel the way Bennett feels about the QB not wanting to compete with a rookie? We know one potential Hall of Famer who shared similar thoughts about Bradford demanding a trade, so Bennett is not alone.
For what it’s worth, the Eagles have essentially guaranteed Bradford the starting job.
