Sha’Carri Richardson has gotten herself into trouble with the law again.
The United States sprinting star Richardson was arrested in the Orlando, Fla. area on Thursday for speeding, TMZ Sports reports. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reportedly took Richardson in on a charge of “dangerous excessive speeding,” meaning that she was allegedly travelling over 100 miles per hour.
“[Richardson was] dangerously tailgating and travelling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists,” an OCSO spokesperson was quoted as saying by TMZ. You can read their full report on the situation here.
Specializing in the 100-meter, the 25-year-old Richardson is a two-time Olympic medalist as well as a four-time World Championships medalist. She is one of the best-known names in track and field today, though in part due to her notoriety.
Most notably, Richardson was arrested last July on a charge of domestic violence after an ugly incident at Seattle-Tacoma Airport in King County, Wash. with her boyfriend Christian Coleman, a fellow Olympic 100-meter sprinter. The incident (which was caught on surveillance video) showed Richardson pushing Coleman into a nearby column at the airport and also throwing a pair of headphones at him.
In the weeks after her domestic violence arrest, some troubling bodycam footage emerged of Richardson berating Coleman and blaming him for the incident. The charge was dropped though after Coleman declined to pursue the matter any further, and Richardson later issued a public statement saying that she was getting help.
Now Richardson is dealing with more legal trouble in what has been an unsavory last six months for her. While she is knowing for going fast on the track, doing so on the highway ended up getting Richardson arrested this week.
