In May 2025, it was revealed that NBA legend Michael Jordan was joining the NBA’s NBC coverage as a “special contributor.”
However, all signs point to Jordan’s time with the network coming to an end sooner than expected. According to a report from Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Jordan is “not expected to return” to the coverage with NBC Sports.
Rumors swirled last summer of a $40 million salary for Jordan to be part of the coverage, although it remains to be seen if that was the amount the network paid him.
Jordan’s time with NBC Sports featured a sit-down interview with Mike Tirico, titled “Insights of Excellence.”
The interview was split into multiple segments and aired over the season. That plan by the network raised plenty of eyebrows and drew some backlash.
Jordan did not appear during any live programming for the NBC Sports network, and the only appearances he had were during the interview. It also marked his first basketball TV appearance since 2020, when ESPN released “The Last Dance” documentary, which secured plenty of viewership numbers when it was released.
Apart from his NBC Sports role, Jordan is also a co-owner of the NASCAR team with Denny Hamlin.
As of Wednesday morning, NBC Sports has not confirmed the reports of Jordan not being brought back, but is certainly seems his short time with the company is set to end.
