Chris Weidman helps save 94-year-old neighbor after fall

Chris Weidman

Chris Weidman is being hailed as a hero after springing into action to help save his 94-year-old neighbor, whom he discovered in her driveway bleeding profusely.

Weidman, the current UFC middleweight champion who is best known for beating Anderson Silva twice, was outside his Long Island, New York, home on Thursday morning and kept hearing a strange noise. He told UFC.com about the experience.

“I kept hearing this crazy, weird noise repeatedly,” Weidman told UFC.com. “I started looking over where I’m hearing the noise from and I didn’t know if I was just hearing things because it was so loud with the rain.”

He noticed that the noise was coming from someone.

“There was someone standing in their driveway on their phone in the middle of the rain.”

Weidman realized it was his elderly neighbor, who was crying for help. The fighter saw his neighbor drenched in blood, which was coming out of her head. She had fallen backwards through a glass table while trying to feed her dog and was trying to call her daughter on the phone.

Weidman took his neighbor into her open garage and began treating her. He also tried calling 911 but kept getting transferred and receiving no answer, so he called a friend who works in a local precinct and told him to come over.

In the meantime, Weidman tried to help as best as he could.

“I was trying to get her to calm down, talking about her dog and trying to change the subject; she kept saying she just wanted one more year to live, and I’m like ‘you’re going to be fine, you’re not dying today.’ And while this is happening, she’s pounding blood out of her head. I grabbed a bunch of paper towels and I start holding it on her head. I’m getting bloody, but all the while I’m imagining that it was my grandma. I literally went through a whole outdoor garbage pail full of paper towels.”

Unfortunately it took 20 minutes before paramedics arrived to help the woman. There is no update on her condition, but we know what Weidman’s wife thinks of her husband’s efforts.

“Shout out to this man @chrisweidmanufc who just saved our 92 year old neighbors life. She fell onto a glass table and had pieces stuck in her head. She was in her driveway bleeding out in the rain trying to call her daughter on the phone. Chris ran over and brought her inside, cleaned her up and called 911. #myhero”

Hopefully all is well with the woman. Luckily Weidman was around to help at such a scary time.
