NCAA says they will adjust policies in wake of sports betting ruling

Like every sports organization, the NCAA is reacting to Monday’s major Supreme Court ruling lifting the federal ban on sports gambling.

The NCAA will be impacted in certain ways, but one major rule that had always stood was that the organization would not hold championship events in any city that offered legalized sports wagering. In a statement released by the organization Monday, they strongly hinted that this policy may change in the coming weeks and months.

What does it mean? It certainly sounds like the NCAA is opening the door to staging events in a city such as Las Vegas, which had previously been off the table due to legalized gambling there. Though the ruling only impacts the federal level for now, it opens the door for any state to legalize sports gambling. If many states choose to do so, the NCAA’s position wouldn’t be feasible.
