Brock Lesnar might not return to MMA because of concussion concerns
Brock Lesnar’s potential return to the Octagon has been a topic of speculation among MMA and wrestling fans ever since the muscular fighter last fought in 2011.
There have been rumors of Lesnar’s potential return to the UFC for years, and the latest report even said WWE officials expected him to eventually return to fighting. But former WWE announcer Jim Ross says Lesnar might not be so inclined to fight again because of concerns about the effects of concussions.
Here’s what Ross writes:
Sources are saying that it looks more promising that Brock Lesnar could well stay with WWE past WrestleMania due to concerns over long term health affects of competing in MMA specifically concussion oriented issues later in one’s life. Again, these are ‘sources’ and how reliable they are can only be judged after WM31 and following the status of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. One thing is certain, if UFC believes, and rightfully so in my view, that CM Punk will sell PPV’s for at least his first two fights then what would a healthy Brock Lesnar mean to the UFC brand in a time where no combat sport company has a plethora of bona fide star power that can move the needle on the pay per view business.
WM31 is WrestleMania 31, which will take place at the end of March. Lesnar is headlining the program and will wrestle for the WWE World Heavyweight championship. How that event does will say a lot about Lesnar’s value to the company. If it gains a lot of traction, then Lesnar will probably have even less reason to leave the WWE.
As recently as August, Lesnar’s manager Paul Heyman said Brock would consider a return to fighting, but he easily could have changed his mind in the time since then. Lesnar suffered a concussion early in his wrestling career, but there is no exact record of his head injuries since then. He has battled diverticulitis over the past few years.
