Former Cardinals World Series hero Anthony Reyes now a firefighter
Former MLB pitcher Anthony Reyes enjoyed a relatively short career, playing for two teams from 2005-2009 and compiling a record of 13-26. Now, he has dedicated himself to helping his community stay safe.
Reyes officially became a firefighter in L.A. County over the weekend.

A former 15th-round pick out of USC, Reyes is best known for his role on the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals World Series team. After being left off the roster in the NLDS, the right-hander later pitched four innings and took a no-decision in Game 4 of the NLCS. He went on to start Game 1 of the World Series, throwing eight innings and retiring 17 hitters in a row at one point, which was a World Series record for a rookie. Reyes helped set the tone for a Cardinals team that beat the Detroit Tigers in five games to win a title.
As fulfilling as that must have been, Reyes will probably get a lot more out of his new job.
