LeBron James quotes about throwing Liverpool a Vegas bash were fake

Liverpool is 0-2-1 through three games and off to its worst start in 50 years. Partial team owner LeBron James supposedly gave the team some incentive to turn the season around by promising them a party in Las Vegas co-hosted by him and Kanye West if they won it all, but it appears that the story was false.

LeBron supposedly gave the following quotes to British tabloid The Sun, which has taken down the article. The Daily Mail also picked up on the quotes, but they killed their story too. Here’s what it said, per SB Nation:

“I spent some time with (captain) Steven Gerrard and he is passionate about his team. Everybody in sport needs incentive and if the guys at Liverpool win something this year I will give them the best weekend of their life in Vegas,” LeBron supposedly said.

“Kanye is in and trust me, nobody does Vegas like LeBron and Kanye.

“We will take them to places in Vegas 99 percent of people don’t even know exist. There is Vegas and then there is Vegas.”

Both LeBron’s reps and Liverpool’s director of communications said the story was false, and that explains why it’s been pulled. The quotes didn’t sound like something LeBron would say publicly, so I can believe that it was false. That being the case, where the heck did The Sun get its information from?

What’s interesting to note is that this is the second LeBron James Las Vegas-related story that’s been killed by the media. I guess what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas.
