NBA insider reveals 2 teams are already ‘in pursuit’ of Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be the most commonly discussed player in trade rumors for all of June.
While the Miami Heat have long been linked as a frontrunner, another team has emerged in pursuit of Antetokounmpo: the Portland Trail Blazers, as NBA insider Marc Stein wrote in his latest Substack.
“More and more, with sources saying Miami and Portland are already in pursuit, Antetokounmpo’s future is increasingly expected to be resolved over the next few weeks in conjunction with NBA Draft proceedings,” Stein wrote.
The Heat still figure to be the frontrunners, but the Trail Blazers’ pursuit seems a bit surprising. On one hand, new owner Tom Dundon has left many scratching their heads after he laid off approximately 70 employees and underwent a series of cost-cutting moves.
Now, the Trail Blazers acquiring Antetokounmpo would be a big risk, especially since their chances of keeping him long-term figure to be very low.
Before the trade deadline, the Trail Blazers were also linked as a suitor. Any such trade would likely involve Jerami Grant and former No. 3 overall pick Scoot Henderson.
An Antetokounmpo trade to Portland would also reunite him with Damian Lillard, as the two were teammates for a time in Milwaukee.
The Bucks have reportedly been hoping to have an Antetokounmpo trade done before the NBA Draft, if they decide to move on from him.
Cavaliers would be reluctant to trade 1 player for Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been linked to a possible Giannis Antetokounmpo trade since they were swept in the Eastern Conference Finals, but that might not be a realistic proposal after all.
Multiple Cavaliers executives would be “vehemently against” a trade proposal that would send Evan Mobley to the Milwaukee Bucks for Antetokounmpo, according to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com. The Cavaliers are huge fans of Mobley and see him not just as a foundational piece, but as something of a safety net for the organization.
The Cavaliers also are not certain if Antetokounmpo would commit to them long-term, and would have at least some concerns about acquiring a 31-year-old with a history of knee issues.
Mobley was quickly named as a potential piece that would have to go to Milwaukee if the Cavs did try to trade for Antetokounmpo. The 24-year-old is coming off a season that saw him average 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, and he also won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2024-25. He has not been quite as productive during any of his playoff runs, though he did put up 21 points and 12 rebounds when Cleveland eliminated the Detroit Pistons on the road in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
As for Antetokounmpo, there are other teams that the Bucks star might have more interest in, and those teams might also have more interest than the Cavs would in acquiring him. Cleveland probably isn’t a serious player for Antetokounmpo if they are really hesitating over including Mobley in such a trade.
AJ Brown has finally been traded
For the second time in his career, A.J. Brown has been traded.
Brown on Monday was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the New England Patriots for two draft picks. The Eagles are receiving a 5th-round pick in 2027 and first-round pick in 2028 in return for Brown.
Brown has a 4-year, $113 million contract that includes $29 million guaranteed for the upcoming season. He will only count as $7 million against New England’s salary cap for the upcoming season, and he will count for nearly $11 million against the Patriots’ cap in 2027.
The Eagles waited until June 1 to make the trade so that they could split the dead cap money between 2026 (nearly $22 million) and 2027 (around $21.6 million).
There had been speculation all offseason that Philly would be trading Brown. Their offseason moves pointed to a split from Brown, as they drafted Makai Lemon, traded for Dontayvion Wicks, and signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore — all of whom are wide receivers.
New England, which lost in the Super Bowl last season, wanted to improve its receiving options for young quarterback Drake Maye. They added Romeo Doubs this offseason and have now acquired Brown.
Brown, 28, is entering his eighth NFL season. He has caught exactly 7 touchdowns in three straight seasons, while posting just over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last two years.
Though Brown remains a productive receiver, the question is whether he will remain on good behavior. He helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl, but he also caused some distractions both on and off the field. Brown previously played under Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, which has given the Patriots the confidence to deal for him.
Browns’ stance on trading Denzel Ward has been revealed
The Cleveland Browns shocked the NFL world Monday by trading star edge rusher Myles Garrett, but that deal does not necessarily mean they are open for business.
The Browns are not pursuing any sort of fire sale after trading Garrett, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. The decision to trade Garrett was made because of the value being offered in return by the Los Angeles Rams, not because the team was looking to get rid of him.
In addition, teams that have asked about trading for cornerback Denzel Ward have been given a “hard no” by the Browns.
Few Browns notes on Myles Garrett trade from @SportsCenter
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) June 1, 2026
*Browns' desire for a young, ascending pass rusher (and Jared Verse, specifically), shrunk candidate pool. Per team source, this was a Rams-specific deal because Rams 'hounded' CLE for a while.
*Myles Garrett did not…
The Garrett trade appears to have been a rare case of one team making another team an offer that was simply too good to refuse. In this case, the Browns had the opportunity to get a quality young player in Jared Verse along with a parcel of draft picks, and decided it was worth doing.
Ward has two years remaining on his current contract and is still one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks. He was selected to his fifth Pro Bowl last season and made it for the third straight year. Perhaps a team could overwhelm the Browns as the Rams did with Garrett, but it appears unlikely.
Russell Wilson is not retiring despite his big career decision
Russell Wilson has made a major career decision that, on the surface, should be the end of his NFL playing days. That might not necessarily be the case, however.
Multiple reports Monday indicated that Wilson has accepted an offer to join CBS’ “The NFL Today” as an analyst for the 2026 season. On the surface, that would suggest that Wilson’s illustrious playing career is over.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, however, characterized this as a “pause” on Wilson’s playing career, and emphasized that the quarterback is not formally retiring.
Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson, who has an offer to be a backup QB, has elected to accept an offer to join the CBS Sports team for their Sunday pregame show and more, sources say (as @sportsrapport reported).
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 1, 2026
Wilson may not be retiring, but at least a pause on his playing career. pic.twitter.com/6484EEMXnh
It is entirely possible that Wilson’s decision leads to retirement, whether intended or not. He would hardly be the first player to leave the door open to playing again, only to receive no phone calls from interested teams.
We do know, however, that Wilson garnered interest as a backup this offseason. It is not out of the realm of possibility that a team that suffers a midseason quarterback injury or poor play might give him a call, at which point he would have a decision to make.
Wilson had been linked to a job with CBS last month. He will presumably get a hefty salary without having to take a bunch of hits every Sunday, but it sounds like he is not completely committing to that just yet.
Myles Garrett trade could cost Rams several key players
The Los Angeles Rams’ shocking trade for Myles Garrett on Monday may have long-term repercussions for the rest of their roster.
The Rams agreed to a deal to acquire Garrett from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, giving up Jared Verse and a package of draft picks in return. As part of the deal, the Rams are taking on significant salary, as Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension a year ago.
That could make it very difficult for them to retain their young core beyond 2026. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Rams are “sending signals” that they are not pursuing contract extensions this summer for wide receiver Puka Nacua, edge rushers Byron Young and Kobie Turner, and offensive lineman Steve Avila. All four players are eligible for free agency after the 2026 season.
Rams’ approach is fascinating – taking big swings instead of paying young stars.
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) June 1, 2026
Sources say L.A. is giving early impressions it won’t extend 2027 FAs Puka Nacua, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Steve Avila this summer. Perhaps that changes but deals are not on the radar right now.
Essentially, the Rams may be sacrificing their ability to pay the likes of Nacua and Young long-term by getting Garrett now and going all-in. That could still change, of course, but keeping any combination of those players would likely require some sacrifices in light of how much money it will take to retain them.
The Rams have presumably taken this into account. The team is famous for gambling with its future to go all-in now, and has even made it something of an organizational philosophy. If they win a championship, it will be worth it.
Myles Garrett has been traded by Browns
The Cleveland Browns are trading Myles Garrett in the most shocking move of the NFL offseason.
The Browns are trading Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for a package headlined by edge rusher Jared Verse, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The Browns will also receive a 2027 first-round pick and other draft compensation that is still being finalized.
🚨🚨🚨
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 1, 2026
Bombshell: The Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, per @rapsheet, @TomPelissero and me.
In exchange for Garrett, the Rams are expected to send Pro-Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027… pic.twitter.com/vHVquJBcYl
This should put to rest any notion that the Rams are not all-in after they surprised many by taking quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round of the NFL Draft. Garrett immediately transforms the team’s pass rush, as he is coming off a season which saw him post 23 sacks, a single-season NFL record. They will be able to pair him with Byron Young, who had 12 sacks in his own right last season.
It is not clear why the Browns felt now was the time to trade Garrett, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with Cleveland last year. There were indications he was not happy with the team’s decision to pass over former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in their head coach hiring. Despite that, the Browns were adamant that he would not be traded, but the Rams appear to have made an offer that was too good to refuse.
Verse is no slouch in his own right, as he collected 7.5 sacks last year and was named to his second Pro Bowl. Still, it certainly appears the Browns are trying to build for the future, even at the risk of making an unpopular move with fans.
Odell Beckham has signed with a new team
Odell Beckham is going back to where everything started.
Beckham is signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants, the team confirmed Monday. He will get the chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp.
OBJ is back 🔥 pic.twitter.com/YkCZCHvhlv
— New York Giants (@Giants) June 1, 2026
The wide receiver also confirmed the news himself in an Instagram post.
Beckham was part of a group of wide receivers to essentially try out for the Giants on Monday. Initially, it looked like the team was heading in a different direction, but they are ultimately taking on multiple options and Beckham will be one of them.
While Beckham is not the same player he once was, a return to the Giants will be very sentimental. He had his best years there and established himself as a franchise icon from 2014 to 2018. His best year came in 2016, when he caught 101 passes for 1,367 yards.
Beckham last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2024. He took the field for nine games, tallying just nine catches for 55 yards during that span. He was suspended for six games last season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy, which prevented any team from taking a flier on him throughout the 2025 campaign.
Giants appear to pass on signing Odell Beckham
The New York Giants appear to have made the decision to pass on signing wide receiver Odell Beckham, at least for the time being.
The Giants are signing veteran wide receiver Braxton Berrios, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed. That comes after Berrios was part of a group of receivers to take part in what was essentially an open tryout for the team on Monday.
Giants are signing veteran WR Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. pic.twitter.com/9EuPfVFiSf
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 1, 2026
Beckham was also a part of that tryout, but the Giants evidently did not like what they saw from him enough to prioritize signing him. It would certainly seem that the chances of him returning to the team are highly unlikely unless something changes.
Beckham and the Giants had at least some mutual interest, considering the team brought him in for a physical earlier in the offseason and openly admitted having been in contact with him. As appealing as the idea of him returning to his original team was, he also has not played since 2024 and has battled injuries for the better part of the last four years.
Berrios spent last season with the Houston Texans. The 30-year-old played in just four games and caught six passes for 37 yards.
Serena Williams makes major career announcement
Serena Williams is making her rumored comeback a reality.
Williams is making a comeback at the upcoming HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club in London beginning on June 8, the tournament announced Monday. Williams will be taking part as a doubles player with Canadian Victoria Mboko.

— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) June 1, 2026
Comeback rumors have been floating around Williams for months now. Those were sparked, in part, because of her taking concrete steps to make herself eligible to play again. Her last tournament was the 2022 US Open, though even then she would not completely shut the door on possibly playing again.
Williams, 44, remains one of the most decorated women’s tennis players ever. She had stepped away from the sport to focus on her family, and she had her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian in 2023.
Queen’s Club serves as a traditional warmup to Wimbledon. Whether Williams plans to try to compete there remains to be seen, though it would appear highly unlikely that she would attempt a comeback just for a one-off tournament appearance.
Video: Rhamondre Stevenson avoids a serious injury after a charity game collision
The New England Patriots have been grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons in the offseason, and they nearly had another on Sunday, involving Rhamondre Stevenson.
During Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s charity softball game at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts, New England running back Stevenson, playing second base, attempted to tag comedian Matt Rife, who was caught in a rundown.
The confused Rife ultimately decided to make a run for second base, but he collided with Stevenson’s legs. The collision caused Stevenson to go down. Fortunately, Stevenson was able to get back to his feet and gather himself, much to the relief of Patriots fans everywhere.
Here is a video of that play.

— Marlee Wierda (@marleewierda) May 31, 2026
An injury to one of the Patriots’ key players is the last thing the team needs as it prepares for the 2026 NFL season, in which it will also look to defend its AFC title and improve on its Super Bowl runner-up finish in the 2025 campaign.
The 28-year-old Stevenson is still expected to start for New England, even with the presence of TreVeyon Henderson.
Entering his sixth season in the NFL, Stevenson has 3,669 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns to his name on 836 carries through 70 games.
Cheryl Miller had strong words on Caitlin Clark’s heated exchange with Stephanie White
It hasn’t been all that rosy in Indiana Fever land lately. They have dropped their last two games, and perhaps more alarming is the seemingly simmering tension between superstar point guard Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White.
In a video that has since gone viral, Clark and White had a heated exchange on the bench during Saturday’s game against the Portland Fire at Moda Center in Portland, Ore.

It was unclear exactly what the crux of their argument was, but it led White to substitute Clark for rookie guard Raven Johnson.
In any case, women’s basketball legend Cheryl Miller did not like seeing a disagreement between a coach and a star player play out so explosively in public.
“Right now, it’s frustration. And unfortunately, it’s boiling over, and it’s being seen,” Miller said during a segment on NBC.
“It’s one thing to have it behind closed doors, but when it spills over, and when the coach has to basically say, ‘You know what, Caitlin, enough is enough, this is too disruptive. In and out, take a seat.’”
Winning is a convenient way to take away the spotlight from such a controversial moment that doesn’t look good for a team.
Unfortunately, the Fever have not won of late. The controversy has only been compounded by their 100-84 loss to the Fire, which dropped Indiana’s record to
A bettor is close to winning an NBA Finals wager with an absurd payout
An NBA Finals series win by Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs will have a huge impact on New York basketball fans.
For at least one fan (or bettor), such an outcome will also unlock a life-changing financial windfall.
According to DraftKings Insight on X, a DraftKings Sportsbook bettor put a $49,000 straight bet on the Knicks to win the 2026 NBA title. That wager has a massive payout of $980,000 on +1900 odds when the bet was placed after New York took care of their series in the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs against the Atlanta Hawks.

That bet has looked better and better with each passing Knicks game. In fact, New York has not lost a game since, blanking the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round before sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers again in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The bettor also showed full commitment to the Knicks by turning down a guaranteed cashout of $123,730.90 before the Cavs series. The cashout value of the wager has since climbed to $255,921.29 ahead of the NBA Finals, but it appears the bettor is staying loyal to the original pick.
The bettor, however, still has a chance to change his mind. Game 1 of the Knicks-Spurs series will be on Wednesday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Fans call out Jalen Williams for what he said after losing to the Spurs
Jalen Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder are still picking up the pieces after getting dethroned by the San Antonio Spurs.
The Thunder lost their NBA crown and their bid for back-to-back titles after being outclassed by the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, though Williams believes Oklahoma City would have been on its way to the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks had he not missed games due to injury.
“Obviously, I think I could have made an impact,” he told reporters on Sunday, via Anthony Slater of ESPN. “I think we could’ve won if I played. We went to seven with them without me playing. I don’t think I make us worse.”
That statement sparked some strong reactions from fans on social media.

The 25-year-old guard-forward struggled to stay healthy in the 2025-26 campaign, appearing in only 33 regular-season games and just five in the 2026 playoffs. Despite his absences, the Thunder went 64-18 and came just a win away from reaching the NBA Finals for the second year in a row.
Williams will have the entire offseason to heal up from his injury and prepare for what the Thunder hope will be a huge bounce-back campaign for him in 2026-27.
Magic Johnson raises 1 concern about Victor Wembanyama in the NBA Finals
Magic Johnson is wary of how impactful Victor Wembanyama can be on the San Antonio Spurs’ defense in the 2026 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.
The 66-year-old Basketball Hall of Famer acknowledges Wembanyama’s greatness on defense, but he believes the Spurs star big man will not have as much defensive success in the paint in the Finals because of New York’s perimeter shooting.
“Victor Wembanyama dominated the paint on defense during the Series against OKC while playing in a zone, but that won’t work against the Knicks given the 3-point shooting ability of Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby,” the former Los Angeles Lakes superstar point guard shared on X.
The Spurs are also surely mindful of what New York is capable of from long distance. Johnson is spot on with his assessment of Karl Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, who have been shooting the lights out in the postseason.
Anunoby is entering the Finals with a 48.3% shooting from deep in the playoffs. Towns is not too shabby either, with his 48.9% success rate from behind the arc.
Wembanyama, however, still has the length and mobility to bother shots and intimidate shooters, even when the Spurs are playing zone defense.
For what it’s worth, Spurs opponents shot 19.1% worse on attempts taken from within six feet of the basket when Wembanyama is on the floor in the 2026 playoffs. Also, they have shot 5.8% worse from deep under the same circumstances.
Craig Kimbrel’s Rays stint takes an unfortunate turn after just one appearance
The Tampa Bay Rays will have to wait a little longer before they can send veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel back to the mound.
After just one appearance with Tampa Bay, Kimbrel was placed by the Rays on the 15-day injured list on Sunday due to a right wrist strain, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Kimbrel started the 2026 MLB season with the New York Mets. He was designated for assignment by New York last week before he elected to become a free agent. The Rays then signed Kimbrel on Tuesday, the same day he made his debut for Tampa Bay in a game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md.
The nine-time All-Star looked solid in his first appearance in a Rays uniform, pitching a scoreless inning and allowing just a hit with 2 strikeouts, albeit in a 6-1 loss to the Orioles. However, he dealt with soreness in his right wrist after playing catch on Friday, leading to his eventual trip to the injured list.
In a corresponding move, the Rays recalled right-hander Trevor Martin after sending him to Triple-A on Wednesday.
Kimbrel, who won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2018, has quite a journey in the big leagues, as he’s now seen action for 11 clubs, dating back to 2010 when he made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander speaks out on Chet Holmgren after losing Western Conference Finals
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has not wavered in his support of his Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Chet Holmgren.
Fans piled on Holmgren for looking like a shell of himself against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. Holmgren took just two shots and tallied four points in the Thunder’s Game 7 ouster.
On Sunday, Gilgeous-Alexander was asked about potentially having conversations with Holmgren to address his underperformance against the Thunder’s West rivals.
“Nah, I haven’t talked to Chet about that,” SGA told reporters. “I won’t. I also don’t feel like I need to.”
“I didn’t perform my greatest this series either, and Chet won’t come to me with a development plan for this summer. Chet knows how much I care about this game and want to be the best version of myself every night I’m out there on the floor, and I know how much Chet loves this game and wants to be the best version himself out there every night on the floor — and sometimes it just doesn’t go that way, for whatever reason that is.”
Gilgeous-Alexander added that he has “no doubt” Holmgren will figure things out and that the current version of Holmgren the world saw underwhelm against the Spurs was “the worst version” fans will ever see for the rest of his NBA career.
While improvement in the NBA is rarely linear, Holmgren’s regression in the Western Conference Finals was alarming to say the least. During last year’s championship run, the All-Star big man averaged 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks across 23 games en route to a title.
In seven games against the Spurs, Holmgren’s numbers dropped to 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks while looking terrified to attack Wembanyama whenever the two were matchup up.
It’s possible Holmgren does use the experience as motivation to be better going forward. But with how poorly he played against Wemby, fans will have to see it to believe it.
Spurs fan left brain-dead after suffering tragic injury while celebrating win
A 17-year-old San Antonio Spurs fan was hospitalized on Thursday night after falling from a moving vehicle while celebrating one of his team’s recent playoff wins.
The teenage victim was reportedly identified as Joey Rodriguez. According to FOX San Antonio, Rodriguez remains on life support as further testing continues. Some reports have indicated that Rodriguez has since been declared brain dead, but his family is not giving up hope just yet.
“The doctors have been running tests to see if he has any further brain activity,” said Rodriguez’s aunt, Yvonne Hudson.
“We don’t want doctors to give up on him yet since his heart is beating on its own. We are asking for just prayers and kind words at this moment.”
As Spurs fans took to the streets Saturday, cheering and waving flags after a pivotal Game 7 win, a 17-year-old boy remained on life support, his loved ones at his bedside.

The tragic incident happened after the Spurs’ 118-91 win in Game 6 over the Thunder. Rodriguez was attending one of San Antonio’s signature honking celebrations with a few of his friends. The one they attended was held in the 300 block of West Dickson Avenue.
According to Nancy M. Preyer-Johnson of the San Antonio Express-News, Rodriguez was sitting on the passenger side window of his friend’s vehicle when it hit a curb. The sudden stop flung Rodriguez head-first into the pavement, resulting in a serious head injury.
Rodriguez, a student at Frank Tejeda Academy, was set to graduate next year.
Giants could be headed for reunion with Odell Beckham Jr.
The New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. appear to be giving things another go.
The Giants are reportedly bringing in Beckham for a workout on Monday. According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the two sides have “remained in contact for months” and share “mutual interest” in getting a deal done to bring the veteran wide receiver back to the Big Apple.

Beckham has had his star fade over the past few years. After being one of the most electric wideouts throughout his first run with the Giants from 2014 to 2018, injuries and off-field issues have derailed Beckham’s career of late.
OBJ last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2024. He took the field for nine games, tallying just nine catches for 55 yards during that span. He was suspended for six games last season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy, which prevented any team from taking a flier on him throughout the 2025 campaign.
Last year, Beckham dropped a hint that he was interested in rejoining the Giants. That interest remained up until New York brought him in for a physical in April.
First-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh has been in constant communication with Beckham over the past month. With Beckham set to work out for the team, those conversations must have gone pretty well.
Seattle fans had so much fun hate-watching Thunder lose to Spurs
Seattle Mariners fans were not shedding any tears over the Oklahoma City Thunder’s exit from the 2026 NBA playoffs.
The Thunder fell to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday in an epic Game 7 to conclude the Western Conference Finals. The fourth quarter of OKC’s 111-103 loss just so happened to coincide with the start of the Mariners’ home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash.
The stadium staff felt like it would be a good idea to flash the closing moments of Game 7 on the jumbotron — and they were right. The crowd went nuts, celebrating the demise of the team that replaced the city’s beloved Seattle SuperSonics nearly two decades ago.

It didn’t hurt that the Mariners had also just hit four home runs off Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson over the first three innings. Seattle won without needing to sweat in a 5-1 contest.
Seattle sports fans have long held a grudge against the Thunder after team owner Clay Bennett led the charge to relocate the Sonics franchise to Oklahoma City in 2008. With a huge basketball void still in Seattle, that grudge has not faded in the slightest.
The good news for Seattle is that the NBA appears poised to expand before the decade ends, with the Sonics widely expected to be among the teams in said expansion.
