Jimbo Fisher cuts interview short: Jameis Winston has done nothing wrong (Video)
Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher cut an interview with reporters short on Monday when he was asked a question about Jameis Winston’s off-field troubles. Fisher, who was apparently told there would be no questions about any Winston drama, was first asked if there was any news regarding Winston’s university disciplinary hearing.
“We’re moving on with Louisville and talking about the other things,” Fisher said, as noted by Jon Solomon of CBSSports.com. “Everything should be great.”
A reporter then followed up by asking if Fisher’s reputation has taken a hit because of Winston’s issues off the field. At that point, Fisher became angry and started removing his microphone.
“Why is my reputation taking a hit? For backing a kid who has done nothing wrong?” Fisher said. “I don’t want to get into this. The questions weren’t supposed to be asked today. I’m done. I’m done.”
The uncomfortable exchange went on a bit longer, with the reporter pleading with Fisher and saying he wouldn’t ask any more questions about Winston’s off-field issues. Fisher, clearly annoyed, asked if the exchange was going to be put on the air. I don’t know about on the air, but it was uploaded to YouTube. Sorry, Jimbo.
Fisher has consistently enabled Winston despite all of the legal issues the sophomore has had and dumb mistakes he has made. You can see a summary of all of Winston’s boneheaded decisions here.
