Steve Spurrier Rips Writer Ron Morris, Refuses to Talk While He’s in Press Room

Normally when a coach or player flips out on a reporter it happens during an interview.  Sometimes it’s a question that ignites an epic rant (see Calhoun, Jim). Other times it’s a writer’s article that prompts the excitement. Either way, the outburst normally comes mid-interview.  When it comes to Steve Spurrier, that isn’t always the case.

Spurrier has never been afraid to speak his mind. He decided to give a two-minute introduction before his scheduled press conference on Tuesday.  During said intro, Spurrier completely ripped The State writer, Ron Morris, who tends to write negative articles about South Carolina football. Spurrier was angry that Morris accused him of stealing Bruce Ellington from South Carolina’s basketball team in the spring, and he let the reporter hear about it. Check out this awesome Steve Spurrier rant video, courtesy of The Big Lead:

I don’t care if you’re the most arrogant writer in America, that speech would embarrass anyone.  If a large part of Morris’ paycheck comes from his coverage of the Gamecocks, he may want to seek work elsewhere.  Either that, or he should make friends with someone who takes good notes at press conferences.
