Aaron Rodgers Says He Loves Playing Against Brian Urlacher

Brian Urlacher has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL for the past decade. He’s a tackling machine who hits like an 18-wheeler. He hates the league’s new tackling rules because he enjoys lighting people up. Urlacher is one of the last people on earth a running back wants to see when he is running freely through a hole.  The same usually can be said for quarterbacks, but not the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

On Tuesday, Rodgers told WAUK-AM that he enjoys playing against Urlacher more than any other player in the NFL.  Apparently No. 12 is a thrill-seeker.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Rodgers said. “It really is. He’s my favorite player to play against, and a guy I really respect. I respect the way he plays. He plays a clean game. Not a dirty player. Not a reckless out-of-control player. I think he really appreciates the game and respects the game and has played it well for a long time.

“There are a lot of dummy calls that go on. There is such a familiarity with the individual calls that we both use a number of dummy words out there, mixed in with some words that actually mean something. It’s a chess match. But it’s exciting to play against Brian to try to beat him at the mental game.”

Either Rodgers is lying, has a death wish, or truly respects top-notch competition.  If I were a quarterback in the NFL, I’d hate playing against Urlacher twice a year.  The mental part of the match-ups may be fun, but I would think the fun would end when Urlacher got his hands on you.  That’s why Rodgers is a Super Bowl MVP and I’m a sports blogger.
