Denver Mayor Michael Hancock reportedly hurt himself practicing Ray Lewis dance

ray lewis danceDenver Mayor Michael Hancock lost a bet when the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Denver Broncos in double-overtime on Saturday, but an injury may prevent him from paying up.

According to the Denver Post, Hancock had a friendly wager going with Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake that was supposed to result in him doing Ray Lewis’ famous pregame warmup dance (which can be seen here) during Baltimore’s game against the New England Patriots. Had Denver beaten the Ravens, Rawlings-Blake agreed to light the Washington Monument in blue and orange Broncos colors.

However, Hancock’s spokeswoman Amber Miller said on Monday that he was hurt “during pregame warm-ups.” In other words, Hancock suffered an injury while practicing the dance. She also said he is “expected to be on the field in the second half, ready to carry out the game plan and fulfill his end of the wager.”

So he is going to do the dance, or he’s not going to do the dance? The Denver Post says he isn’t going to anymore, but what does that last statement from his spokeswoman mean? Food was also reportedly a part of the wager, with Hancock supposedly agreeing to send a box of dry aged steaks to Rawlings-Blake from Lombardi Brothers Meats in Denver. Is that the part of the wager that Hancock is ready to carry out? I’m lost.

UPDATE: Mayor Hancock’s office has informed LBS that this was actually all a joke that was taken too literally. Hancock injured his leg at a National Western Stock Show event where a stir on his cowboy boot caused him to trip coming off the stage, leading to a partial tear in his quadriceps. Once he heals, he still intends to fulfill his end of the wager.

H/T Game On!
