Greg Hardy signing by Cowboys ‘not a good thing’ says Dallas Mayor
In hopes of bolstering their pass rush, the Cowboys signed free agent Greg Hardy this week. While few would question Hardy’s ability on the football field, his arrest for domestic violence that caused him to miss all but one game last year is a red flag for many.
A low-risk investment, the move has been met with negative responses. Dallas sports anchor Dale Hansen absolutely unloaded on the Cowboys for signing the 26-year-old. We can also add Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to the list of people not in favor of the choice. Rawlings went as far as to contact members of the organization to understand their thought process.
“I’m a big Cowboys fan. I love them to death and I want them to beat the Eagles every time they play,” Rawlings said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “But at some point, being a sports fan gets trumped by being a father, husband, wanting to do what’s right for women, so this is not a good thing. I don’t think I’m going to be buying Hardy jerseys any time soon.”
Given the circumstance of Hardy’s arrest, the strong opinions held by both Dale Hansen and Mike Rawlings are certainly understandable. As Rawlings also noted, just because he is a fan of the team doesn’t mean he has to agree with every move they make, which he obviously doesn’t in this case. However, what happens on Sundays does have the ability to change the minds of some. It may not for Dallas’ Mayor, but if Hardy returns to be being a menace in opposing team’s backfields, Greg Hardy will surely receive his share of cheers AT&T Stadium.
