Matt Moore to visit with Cowboys about backup QB job

Matt Moore

Matt Moore will reportedly visit with the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday as a potential backup quarterback signing.

The Cowboys need a backup for Tony Romo, who missed most of last season after breaking his collarbone on two separate occasions. They used a combination of Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore as backups last season to disastrous results.

Moore has only thrown 30 passes the past four seasons, but he had stints as a starting QB for the Panthers and Dolphins prior to that. He is 13-12 as a career starter with 33 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.

Moore could be considered a slight upgrade over some of the other bodies the Cowboys rolled out there last season. However, despite Jerry Jones’ best beliefs, if Romo gets hurt, Dallas’ season is probably already over.

If the Cowboys sign Moore to be their backup, that would also seem to be further proof that they will not be taking a quarterback early in the draft, which has been reported as a possibility.
